Following
his retirement from full time employment Alun decided to
make studio wood turning his new occupation. He works from
an equipped workshop using a VB36 Bowl lathe. Producing
a range of bowls, platters and smaller decorative and useful
items, he prefers to work with the woods with more pronounced
grains like Burr Oak, Walnut, Burr Elm and Cherry.
Alun
obtains his woods from fallen trees and branches and discarded
off cuts from local commercial joinery companies to supplement
the blanks bought from sawmills and wood fairs. His products
are usually finished with Danish Oil, Teak Oil or Friction
Polish.
