Ruth Harries - stitch

Using machine stitch, dense layers are built up, completely covering background fabric and by changing threads frequently, achieve subtle variations in colour and tone.

I endeavour to give the impression of the illusion of paint, using thread.
Current work observes my relationship with my daughter and the beauty of a child's simple drawings; their simple awareness of space and composition.

Alphabets and simple words are also considered and re- presented.

In 2006 Ruth staved off competition from 400 other entries to be named Welsh Artist Of The Year.
